Entrepreneurs and Credit Cards

When I was just a boy, besides talking about lemon trees and the birds and the bees, my dad used to talk about NOT getting into debt.

Well, the times, they are a-changing. Today, if you can meet a man with no debt, you must be deep in a jungle and the guy wears a banana leaf. Everyone and their dog has a credit card. There is no more shame in getting credit. You are no longer a reprobate if you owed some money or take stuff on credit.

I know of two stories in the early days of the PC boom where credit cards played a part. One of them, I met personally, the other is hearsay. Ted Waites of Gateway (used to be Gateway 2000) started his giant PC company with his credit card. The other guy, not so famous, but still as successful was Tim Crown and his brother, who also started their PC company on a credit card. The good old days.

Today, we get calls all the time for 0% credit cards where we are told there is no interest charge! Free credit. Unbelievable, but true. Then there are those very interesting calls for us to get these irresistible 0% balance transfers . Heard of them?

As I see it, there are no more excuses for entrepreneurs not to hang out their shingles. After all, just whip up your credit card!
