The importance of insurance

On a more sobering note, I remember that time when my car got smashed. Well, I was not drunk. I never drive when I drink. But someone smashed the window and grabbed the stuff in the boot and cleaned out the glove compartment. Fortunately, other than a toolbox, some coupons, I did not lose much. My car insurance covered most of everything.

That incident forced me to wake up and take a closer look at my home insurance. My car had nothing of value. My house has furniture, TV set, hi-fi system and such. So, I took a short time to compare home insurance. I finally did update my fire insurance and my life insurance. Better safe than sorry.

Well, I think most people are aware of the “benefits” of getting insurance. The problem is the inner conviction to take action. Many people have the “it will never happen to me” attitude and only regret after the fact. Strange thing is, some people have suffered loss, and still don’t believe in insurance. I guess they think that “lightning never strikes twice…”. Yeah, right.

You are right. 8 out of 10 people are aware that they need insurance and the benefits of insurance. However, based on my observations, most times we need something awful to happen either to ourselves or someone around us to kick us into action. It’s really sad, especially for me, since I really believe in insurance and I know what it can really do for families, and as I share it, I hit a brick wall.
