Keep Marketing Fun, Manage The Expectations!

We all get stressed. We are all under pressure. If you are a marketing professional, you will most likely feel a lot of those. When you kick off your latest marketing campaign, you not only have to deal with all the details to ensure a successful launch, you also have to meet the expectations of many different groups of people.

Your “bosses” (your managers or your clients) will expect that once the marketing campaign is launched, the sales will start rolling in. Customers will waltz through the door and stagger out with loads of the good stuff.

Your “market” will expect to be thoroughly impressed and carried away by your brilliant campaign. They look forward to that irresistible offer that you would surely have prepared for them. They are waiting for that ultimate “good deal” or else, they are going to reach for that Feedback Form.

You, the perfectionist expect everything to be on target, on time and that everyone will bow down at your feet.

It really is no fun when you are under so much pressure. I read this very nice article over at Randa’s blog where she has a very nice take on managing expectations. Obviously, most marketers will know that we need to manage expectations. We cannot promise the moon and deliver nothing. The simple five-points in Randa’s article are so true and practical that everyone should pay attention to them.

When you become adept at managing expectations of all parties involved, you will find that you can truly begin to enjoy your marketing experience.
