What Software Needed To Set Up A Community Site?

Things come in waves. Recently, it seems like social networking and community sites have been a topic that keeps popping up under my nose. I am sure there are many resources out there where you can get detailed information on how to set up a community web site. As I am not a programmer, social engineer nor guru in any sense of the word, I would hesitate to come up with something that elaborate.

However, I did come across a list of which are the community building software that you can use. And I thought that it would be nice to share it here. Community building is becoming more than just a buzz word in marketing. It is effective and relevant. It is both fun and exciting. Marketing that is so much fun, must also be dangerous. Thread carefully.
